He is modeling in On30 scale. He has been in HO scale for the pass 35 years, collecting Marx HO in the original boxes and packages. He also have a collection of O scale IVES, collection of Dept 56 in original boxes and a small collection of HO American Flyer and some HO Lionel.
Thanks for stopping by.
Building the framework. He used 2 x 4's because of the weight that he will have on it. The layout is 6 ft x 8 ft. Small for a On30 scale. Not bad for HO scale.

The hole in the middle is for him to get to the back side of the layout to work on sceney or to get a derailed engine. It will have a mountain infront of it so that you will not see it. Started laying the cork down. Be careful on the corners.

The tools that he used for laying the cork and the tracks down.

Most of the cork is down on the first layer.

We will have more pictures when he goes back to playing.
WELL, IT IS ABOUT TIME. He has gone back to playing.
The below pictures are of the mountains that he is building.
He is using wire and Hydrocal ( or you can use plaster of
paris ). It does get messy, but you will see later that after he
cleans up and uses this mess for some of the landscape.

The paint that he using is bought at a craft store and it
looks like marble. If you do this, get the dark gray color
and the light gray color. They look more real looking
after sprayed on.
We will have more pictures very soon.
